Brown Gold - Coffee breaks in From their first cultivation in Ethiopia more than a millennium ago, beloved coffee shrubs were brought by monks and conquerors to be grown in almost every tropical country around the world. A coffee bean is really a seed, first forming as a flower on the branch of a coffee shrub, then sitting at the core of the sweet-ish coffee cherry, and finally separated from its outer shell to be either planted or roasted....

Ten Years On In the months leading up to Hong Kong’s return to Chinese administration at midnight on 1 July, 1997, one heard wave after wave of speculation about what was in store for the ‘two systems’. Many feared that assimilation to the mainland would spell drastic changes to the judicial system established by the British, or an unwanted cooling of the region’s raging economy, or a wateringdown of the city’s international flair with increased restrictions on the flow of international visitors.

Ten years on, there is a great deal of international interest around what has changed in the city’s political, economic and cultural landscapes....
