It’s not really a date, but once a girl that I was good friends with invited me round for dinner, since we hadn’t seen each other for a while (I’d been abroad for about a year). I had to leave early because I forgot I’d arranged to meet another friend afterward; she was upset but said OK, then about an hour later I got a ton of messages from her saying why did I hurt her like that, she’d be a great girlfriend, she loved me, she would cook for me, why didn’t I want to be together? I was taken aback, it came out of nowhere! We don’t really talk anymore.

There’s only one time I’ve felt embarrassed on a date. It was a blind date set by a friend, and the girl was very beautiful and really nice, and we got on well. I ordered expensive food and a lot of drinks, even a bottle of champagne. But when I went to pay the bill I couldn’t find my wallet. This was before Wechat pay. I was so embarrassed! The girl gave me a disgusted look thinking that I had tricked her, and reluctantly paid the bill. We didn’t meet again.

Well once when I was travelling in the Philippines I went on a date with a guy without realising how bad his English was, so bad it made talking really difficult. He kept holding tight onto my hand and saying that this was fate, and that he wanted to come and visit me in the UK. I checked out of my hostel early to get away from him!
